Quick Garlic Butter Noodle Recipe

Noodles are incredibly popular. And why not? Noodles make a delicious and easy side dish to almost any meat-filled dinner. And even better? They are incredibly versatile and can be prepared to suit nearly any taste preference. My family’s taste preference is for garlic, and this quick garlic butter noodle recipe does not disappoint!

Although many people like to use fresh garlic in their cooking, I simply do not have the time. I am a busy mom, and peeling, crushing, and chopping my own garlic is several extra steps that I just do not want to take! Especially when I always have minced garlic in the refrigerator and garlic powder in my cupboard. For this recipe, I chose garlic powder. Although I find the flavor of minced garlic to be better, the garlic powder simply coats the noodles better in this garlic butter noodle recipe, making each bite more uniform than if minced or even fresh chopped garlic was used.

You may have noticed that this quick garlic butter noodle recipe calls for whole wheat noodles, rather than simply egg noodles. Why? Because I am a dietitian, I include whole grains in my family’s meals every chance I get! Although many refined grains have added vitamins, minerals, and sometimes even protein and fiber, whole grains are naturally high in all of these things. Vitamins like folate, niacin, and Vitamin E are found in whole grain products, along with minerals such as magnesium, iron and zinc. Additionally, whole grain products tend to be higher in fiber than refined grains. Although I don’t ALWAYS eat whole grain, I do try to include them whenever it is feasible. However, refined (white) noodles can certain be substituted in this recipe

It may also be obvious that there is no added salt in this recipe. As a dietitian, I rarely use salt in any of my recipes. I prefer to use other flavors such as garlic, parsley, and black pepper to really make this quick garlic butter noodle recipe enticing and delicious! Of course, salt can be added if you prefer, but I very much encourage you to try the original recipe as written prior to adding any salt. You may be surprised how savory and delectable it is!

What does this quick garlic butter noodle recipe go with? I make this with almost any type of meat dish, such as baked ham, roast beef, chicken breast, or even Thanksgiving dinner! To really make this savory, add about a quarter cup of chicken broth to the noodles after cooking, or an entire can to the water used to boil the noodles.

Quick Garlic Butter Noodle Recipe

Time to Prepare: About 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 package Whole Wheat Wide Egg Noodles, 12 oz
  • 4 Tablespoons (1/2 stick) Salted Butter
  • 2 Tablespoons dried Parsley
  • 1 Tablespoon Garlic Powder
  • Black Pepper to taste

Directions

  1. Cook the noodles according to the directions on the package. Drain, and immediately return the noodles to the pasta pot
  2. Add the butter on top of the noodles. Cover and let sit for 1-2 minutes to melt the butter.
  3. Uncover and stir until the butter is completely melted
  4. Sprinkle the parsley, garlic, and black pepper onto the noodles. Stir well.
  5. Enjoy!

Time-Saving Tip: While waiting for the water to boil, melt the butter in a small dish, then add the seasonings and stir. When the noodles are ready, simply pour the mixture on top and mix well.
