Who doesn’t love french fries? They are such as delightful side dish to nearly any meal and are especially popular when served with burgers. The problem? French fries are often deep fried and full of added salt, making many restaurant and homemade recipes anything but healthy. However, this baked french fries recipe creates lots of flavor using a combination of spices with far less fat and salt, so you can serve delicious fries without all the guilt!

While many people simply can’t imagine eating french fries without the salt, the seasonings in this baked french fries recipe gives so much flavor there really isn’t a need for salt, especially when dipped in ketchup. While you can certainly add it to this recipe, I would encourage you to try at least a few fries before deciding if you want to add salt. You may be surprised at how many flavors you can taste when they aren’t drowned out by salt!

You may also notice that I specify canola oil for this recipe. I prefer to use canola oil for the low saturated fat content, as well as the high amount of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), an essential fatty acid as well as an omega-3 fatty acid. However, vegetable oil or even peanut oil can be used in place of canola oil. I would not recommend olive oil, however. Although many people like to bake and cook with olive oil, I do not think the flavors in this seasoning blend pairs well with the rich taste of olive oil.

What goes well with this baked french fries recipe? Burgers of course! But really, french fries go with most meat-based meals, like baked chicken, hot dogs, steak, or any type of Barbeque. For a classic burger and fry combo meal, try making homemade burgers using this easy burger seasoning recipe to keep things on the healthy side. Be sure to add a fresh salad or some grilled asparagus to really feel good about feeding your family a nutritious dinner.
